On February 10, social worker Reshma journeyed to a shelter home in Karad, Maharashtra, for a follow-up visit with Shabana (rescued June 14, 2025, from Maharashtra). Reshma also led a craft activity for 15 survivors. She taught them how to make flowers from tissue paper. Shabana was particularly attentive and answered questions quickly. She even took the initiative to assist other girls with their flowers.
After the session, Reshma asked Shabana how her beautician course was going. Shabana shared that she had completed a beginner's beautician course and enjoyed it. In this course, Shabana learned how to wax, thread, give facials and facial massages, and also learned several hairstyles and henna designs.
Shabana is slowly but surely turning over a new leaf. We are encouraged by her eagerness to learn new skills that can support her in the future. Toward the end of the conversation, Shabana told Reshma that she hopes to return to Bangladesh.
Shortly after her rescue, we learned that Shabana’s family in Bangladesh were responsible for trafficking her to India and forcing her into prostitution. Our team will continue to check in with Shabana and encourage her to develop more life skills and take steps to ensure her safety and well-being.
