Early this month, social worker Shilpa visited Neelu (rescued along with her mother and sister, who were victims of sexual exploitation in March 2022 from a house in Aurangabad, Maharashtra).
Neelu dropped out of school over six years ago. Her mother and older sister were daily wage laborers, which required them to move several times. This made it difficult for Neelu to enroll in a school.
Neelu, who was so keen to learn, asked us to help her. When Shilpa suggested a boarding school so she could attend school regularly, her mother said no. After thinking of a few more options, Shilpa decided that the best option for Neelu was to enroll her in an online school program.
In January 2026, Neelu attended a demo class and loved it. Since she has forgotten much of what she already learned, she has to start with the basics. But Neelu doesn't mind, as she is so eager to complete school. She is well aware that an education will open several doors and opportunities for her.
On March 12, Neelu attended her first online class. She was curious and enthusiastic during the entire class. Shilpa prepared Neelu for challenges that she may face while attending school online, including days with no electricity or no internet and various social challenges that come with being an online learner. She encouraged Neelu to persevere nevertheless.
We are excited for Neelu to have this opportunity to continue her education, and we look forward with hope for the opportunities this will open up for her in the future.
