A Heartbreaking Visit with Koena

A few days ago, our social worker, Lalita, visited Koena (rescued from a lodge in Nagpur in January 2023) for a follow-up visit at her home. Koena shared her concerns about her husband’s drinking habits; she was at a loss for how to handle the situation. Her husband prioritizes drinking and neglects his family.

Koena expressed her desire to pursue training and a job in catering. Lalita encouraged her to focus on caring for her little daughter and continue to foster the tailoring skills she has already developed.

Koena entered marriage with the hope that her husband would love, protect, and provide for his family. Unfortunately, many survivors end up with husbands who drink, gamble, do drugs, or remain in a constant state of unemployment.

Our social workers will continue to check in with Koena and connect her to any helpful resources and job opportunities as she navigates this hardship. We are hopeful that Koena's husband will step up and start taking care of his precious family.
