Trafficking Abbreviations & Definitions

Below are a few common abbreviations and definitions used in our rescue updates.


164 Statement - A 164 statement is a voluntary statement in which the victim shares her experience at the brothel and names of the accused. This is an important statement to help convict the victim's offenders.


ACP - Assistant Commissioner of Police


AHTU - Anti Human Trafficking Unit


CP - Commissioner of Police


CWC - Child Welfare Committee


FIR - First Information Report


Foreigners Act, 1946 - defines who qualifies as a foreigner, grants the Indian government authority to control their presence, and mandates procedures like registration, reporting, and detention for violations. The Act allows the government to deport foreigners who engage in illegal activities, and it outlines penalties for non-compliance.


IPC - Indian Penal Code


ITPA - Immoral Traffic Prevention Act


OSP - One Stop Center (OSC): A temporary shelter "intended to support women affected by violence, in private and public spaces, within the family, community and at the workplace."


PITA - Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act


POCSO - Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act
