Ridhi Says a Painful Goodbye to Her Son

We rescued Ridhi last month from a house in Pune along with her 12-day-old son. The man who trafficked her and got her pregnant abandoned her a few days before she gave birth to their child.

Ridhi and her son were placed in a shelter home in Pune. Her son was initially underweight but had gained a healthy amount of weight over the past month. Ridhi's relatives in Bangladesh refused to acknowledge or accept her son, so with no money, family, or home, Ridhi made the heartbreaking decision to give her son up for adoption.

We accompanied an emotionally distraught Ridhi to the Child Welfare Centre in Pune. They assigned Ridhi's case to the government adoption agency, and Ridhi said goodbye to her son.

It was heartbreaking to witness this young mother so helpless and devastated. This served as a harsh reminder of the ugly effects of sex trafficking. The men and women who exploit these children, teens, and young women do not consider the consequences of their actions and strive only for a few moments of pleasure and money.
