Today we had our first life skill session in a shelter home in Banaras, Uttar Pradesh. 16 girls participated including Gilli, who was rescued on December 2nd, 2021. After running away from her home in West Bengal, she was re-rescued on January 25th, 2022. Since then, Gilli and her daughter (18 months old) have stayed at this shelter home.
The session began with a fun name game. Each girl shared their names with a movement and then the others recalled each other's name with the same movement. After the introductions, our social worker taught them a song with hand motions. Gilli's daughter also did all the motions!
The girls shared their skills. One girl shared she was a good cook and another said she enjoyed cleaning. Gilli shared that she could make delicious chappatis (Indian flatbread). We are thrilled to see Gilli settling in well and the shelter home staff gave positive feedback after the session.
