Ruma*, who was rescued in a raid conducted by Freedom Firm investigators and local police in Nagpur in 2014, testified in court last week. Despite the fact that her relatives and several brothel keepers were present, she bravely testified that she was forced to prostitute and pointed out to the court the lady who was her brothel keeper. Through the proceedings, Freedom Firm staff and the police ensured that her relatives would have no chance to interact with her.
We are extremely proud of Ruma and hope that the brothel keeper will be convicted for her involvement in this case. The case has now come to its last argument, and the final judgment will be pronounced in two months. Ruma’s testimony has empowered her and is sure to create a deterrent in the future trafficking of minors.
