Reenu’s Bittersweet News

Reenu, a 37-year-old survivor, was referred to us by our partner NGO in Bangladesh on December 13, 2025. Reenu endured the unimaginable, only to face further injustice after the police heard her story. Instead of treating her as a victim, the police placed her in a situation where she faced further abuse and neglect.

On June 29, Reenu was deported to Bangladesh. After Reenu arrived in Bangladesh, our social workers called her. Reenu shared that she crossed the border along with 150 others and spent three days walking through the thick jungles along the India-Bangladesh border, trying to find her way back home.

We are glad that Reenu is home with her family and children, but we are also appalled with the judicial system for choosing to deport instead of repatriate Reenu back to Bangladesh.

To Reenu's relief, she is finally back home with her family and children in Bangladesh.

Reenu endured being sold twice. She was trafficked to India by her husband, who traded her body for the greed of money. She was horrifically abused and beaten, and after her rescue, due to poor decisions made by the police, Reenu continued to endure assault and abuse. Our team will continue to fight for justice in Reenu's case and inquire of her well-being.
