Last month, social worker Bharti visited Hema (rescued on June 14, 2024 from Akola) at her aunt’s home. Hema’s baby is now 1.5 months old and in good health. Hema shared that her aunt recently died so she went to visit her cousin to offer her condolences. Hema also shared that she has finally decided that her accused trafficker/previous boyfriend, Vishwas, should not be granted bail. For a long time, Vishwas’ family threatened and pressured Hema to ask the court to release Vishwas. We were relieved to hear that Hema is taking a strong stand against the man who exploited her.
In early 2025, Hema got married, but a few months later, she left her husband and went to live with her father after she and her husband had extramarital affairs. Hema continues to stay with her father and has no desire to live with her husband or in-laws. Although we had hoped the couple might reconcile, we are grateful and hopeful to hear that Hema is taking some courageous steps towards her safety by standing against her trafficker. Bharti gently counselled and encouraged Hema to stay strong and not give into any additional pressure from Vishwas’ family.
