Social workers Priya and Shelly accompanied survivors Saba (rescued February 2023 at 15 years old from a brothel in Kolkata) and Basanti (rescued November 2023 at 16 years old from a brothel in Kolkata) for an interview at a café in Kolkata. This café is very unique because they support survivors of sex trafficking through employment. If Saba and Basanti are offered jobs, they will begin a three-month training course in which they will learn how to bake, maintain the café, and keep a daily work schedule. During the training, they will also receive a stipend, and after completing the training, they will receive a salary plus other benefits. We are eagerly waiting with Saba and Basanti to hear if they are selected for the training. This will be an incredible opportunity for both survivors to gain some new skills and earn an income.
We are so grateful to freedom businesses like this café that provide life-changing employment opportunities for survivors of sex trafficking.
