15-Year-Old Rohana Rescued in Agra

On September 17, 2025, we received a lead for a child who was being forced into prostitution in Agra.

On September 24, we spoke to the Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Agra, who agreed to assign a police team to initiate a raid. He then directed us to the ACP of Saidabad, Uttar Pradesh.

When we met the ACP of Saidabad, she reviewed the details and assigned a police team to conduct the raid. But before the police could set out, we learned that the victim was not at the location. The raid was moved to the next day, September 25.

When we tried to reach the ACP the next day, she was in a meeting with the Commissioner of Police. We tried to reach the ACP of Agra, but he was also unavailable.  Throughout the day, we repeatedly attempted to reach the ACPs, but they did not respond to our calls.

On September 26, we sent a message to the ACP, Saidabad, requesting her to provide us with a rescue team. The ACP agreed and scheduled a police team to meet us at 3 p.m. While we waited for the police to initiate the raid, we received a call from the ACP that there were some clashes within the city that had caused communal tension, so most police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order. Once again, the rescue was delayed to the next day.

On September 27, we spoke to the ACP, who scheduled the rescue operation for that afternoon.

At 5:43 p.m. that evening, the police and our team raided a building and rescued the victim, 15-year-old Rohana. The police collected incriminating evidence from the rooms and arrested three people. After the police completed their reports, we proceeded to the police station to complete the legal formalities. The police registered a First Information Report.

On September 30, we accompanied Rohana to a special court where she recorded her statement. While we waited, Rohana shared her story with us:

Rohana’s parents got divorced, so she went to live with her father in Kanpur. She attended a good school, but when she was in 8th grade, her father brought home another woman. Rohana started to feel uneasy in her home, and her father gave all his attention to the woman and began to neglect Rohana.

When her father failed to pay her school fees, Rohana was forced to drop out. Soon afterwards, she entered into a relationship with a boy. They dated for a short while, but then he dumped her.

Rohana started dating a much older boy. He promised to marry her if she moved to Lucknow. Starry-eyed, she left her father’s home in Kanpur, but once she arrived in Lucknow, her boyfriend told her that before they got married, they would need to buy a house, and he told her she needed to start earning some money.

Rohana, a child of 15, had no work experience nor any idea about how to earn money. Her boyfriend assured her he would help her. This “help” came in the form of introducing her to his pimp friend. Both men convinced Rohana that she could earn large sums of money through prostitution. Rohana, helplessly in love and gullible, wanted to get married and contribute to their dream home. So she agreed to attend to customers. It never occurred to her innocent mind that her boyfriend was simply using her body for his own financial gain.

After a few weeks, Rohana’s boyfriend and the pimp had some conflict, and her boyfriend dragged her to Agra. He introduced her to a new set of pimps who supplied minor girls to hotels. The pimp and boyfriend sent Rohana to different hotels to have sex with customers, and this is how she became trapped in prostitution until our team rescued her.
