On April 16, Zoya (rescued in September 2022 from Maharashtra) testified in a POCSO* court in Kolkata.
Zoya named the people who sexually exploited her and she bravely recounted her traumatic experiences of being trafficked from Kolkata to Nagpur, where she was sold to a brothel.
The defense lawyer who cross-examined Zoya attempted to intimidate and confuse her, which made her feel anxious, but Zoya held her ground and refused to change her statement. Zoya's mother, the complainant, still needs to give her statement in court.
We hope that after examining all the statement the judge will pass a just verdict in which every perpetrator is imprisoned, and Zoya receives compensation.
