Rescue and Re-rescue

The Freedom Firm team in Pune recently discovered that a minor girl rescued in March was back in prostitution after being returned to her parents by the Child Welfare Committee. On Friday, September 26, 2008, the interventions team, along with the Pune Police, were able to rescue her a second time!

This girl disclosed that two other underage girls were at another brothel...two girls that Freedom Firm had also rescued before. She helped lead the police and Freedom Firm on a second raid and the other two minor girls were rescued as well.

The Indian Express news ran the story on Saturday, September 27:

When girls are rescued once, only to be re-trafficked, it can feel like taking one step forward and two steps back. However, systemic change happens slowly, with consistent repetition and intervention. These three girls have been given another chance at freedom and we will continue to stay vigilant to ensure their safety.
