Simran Rescued!

Freedom Firm’s investigation team found Simran*, approximately 15-16 years old, from Rajasthan, in Meerut’s red-light area. The team along with local police officials conducted a rescue operation in the brothel on 26th July. The police were quick to identify the brothel and rescued Simran and two other girls: Uma and Nita.

The brothel keeper and two customers were arrested, and a criminal complaint was filed against them under sections of the ITPA (Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act) and IPC (Indian Penal Code). Shortly after their arrest, the accused filed a bail application which was rejected. They are presently in jail.

A home investigation done by Freedom Firm’s social worker revealed that the three girls are from the Bedia community; a subculture where daughters are routinely pushed into prostitution. The girls are now in a government shelter home where they will be counseled and followed up with by Freedom Firm’s aftercare team.
